Take that...
Remember like less than 24 hours ago, when I pleaded with the internet to believe I was a good reader? Really. Well check my side bar- yep the Zombies are definitely still winning, but I did get to add another book under Books I read '09 section. I would like to thank- weird work/sleep schedules (I could have never done this without waking up at 5:30 a.m.), Thanks Mom and Dad- you taught me countless times that sometimes sleep just doesn't beat a good book. And finally thank you fake glasses (you make me look smart, but in no way are you needed or help me read any better)

My dad is a Librarian...
So I recently added a currently reading (1), and books I have read in '09 section to the side of my blog. I feel guilty everyday that I still have Pride and Prejudice and Zombies under the currently section. It isn't like I am not reading it - cause I am, sort of, the problem is I like to read 4 or 5 books simultaneously. Really this is a lot easier and more valuable then you think. For instance if I were to be in a job interview and get asked what was the last book I read- I could answer North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell and not have to say the Unauthorized biography of Britney Spears. See I am not evening lying- cause I am reading them all- at the same time! This comes in handy so many times you would be amazed. But it makes me feel like everyone who reads my blog thinks I am like the slowest reader ever.... because you know I am not making enough progress on the Zombie book. And really- I am a good reader. Really. My dad is a librarian! (I say this with conviction like it means something) I am hoping to make some more progress reading this weekend, I am at least halfway through 3 out of the 6 books I have in rotation currently! What I do have to admit is when a book hooks me, I rarely let anything else get in the way. I am notorious for choosing reading over sleep (and this is coming from someone who really likes sleep), I can usually knock out a 300 page book in about 16 hours- if I want to.
(1)- I thought I cleverly titled this section: What!?! I read. (As in don't be shocked I freakin read) But sometimes I look at it and think people will see What I read (As in what I am currently reading) Maybe my perceived cleverness doesn't translate over the Internet....

This week's pick: Little Dorrit
Actually a miniseries (not a movie). I completely loved every freaking second of this. Matthew Macfadyen- I love you- At first it was hard to separate you from my love of Pride and Prejudice- esp my crush on Mr. Darcy- but man I think you can rival that with your performance here. Plus I had like 6 more hours of footage of you in this than in P&P. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I easily whipped through a disk a day (about 4 episodes- around 2 hours total). Freaking loved the ending. I totally forgot how awesome Charles Dickens is.
Anyway- I loved it!

Happy Birthday Robert!
Would you rather?
I would like to start out this post with the disclaimer: I really do love, Love, LOVE my parents. Ok? For reals. I do.
A couple of weekends ago I was hanging out with my friends. One of them has an actual honestly not great relationship with her parents (don't worry her in-laws LOVE her), I, on the other hand have one of those relationships with my parents where there is a lot of love, yes, but also they occasionally do or say things that crush little parts of my soul. Like once my Mom told me I was not exactly what you would call a "planned child" (but they love me anyway). To top this off, I tell my sister this bit of information and she says: "Oh my god, do you think you are why they got divorced?" Glee thanks sis- because I really wanted to face the fact that I was unwanted and the possible beginning of the end for my parents all in one moment! For the record my parents love me (or at least this is what I am telling myself). Anyway so this friend of mine and I have occasionally played: Would you rather. I am hanging out with my friend, and her husband asks me if I would rather have my parents dress me up and force me to participate in homemade music videos that they would then post on youtube for all to see (which is what my friend was currently doing with her turtle) OR have my parents forget my birthday (which for the record has happened to me- when all I wanted was to have my Dad call my and tell me: "Oh youngest child of mine- I love you more than your brother and sister- even though your sister has given us two grandchildren and your brother lives closer and knows how to fix stuff- oh yeah and the fact that you called multiple times during college asking for money, never mind that sweetie- I love you most!" Is this really too much to ask for, once a year people? Really?) I thought about this for a second- because really I don't think that youtube thing sounds so bad, there are like a million videos on there and it is unlikely anyone would find a couple that my parents made where they dressed me up in sparkly spandex and made me lip-sync to the spice girls-right? Unless I was going to be President or something... because then the youtube thing would suck. And if you were running for President you can use the forgetful parents as leverage for more sympathy votes. So I tell my friends that it would be worse to have them forget my birthday, but if you think your kids are going to be the next President refrain from making those videos.

Film Friday
This week's pick: All the real girls.
Finally found a Zooey Deschanel film that has let me down. I gave this one the ol' 2 college tries, I don't love her hair or accent in this one. And although I thougt I might love it- it is Zooey! and the main guy is from such greats like Elizabethtown (I might be the only one who loves that movie) and Parks and Recreation- I.did.not.love.it.
Sorry short and sweet this week- here's hoping I have better luck with next weeks picks.

I am clearly a super awesome boss....
Tonight 1/5 of my team needed to come in and work overtime. Sadly 1/5 is only 2 guys. I have this theory that when you have to work overtime you should not only get paid time and a half, but you need to get some treats too! Usually I am super lazy and pop over to hyvee and pick up some cookies. Tonight I was awesome and baked some cupcakes!
Cupcake- Chocolate Fudge, Chocolate Icing, M&M's

Show Tim Riggins some LOVE
Excitement! The amazing Taylor Kitsch has landed the lead role in "John Carter of Mars" Here is what I know- pretty much nothing. It is a lead role. Some Pixar director is doing it. Disney is hoping it is the next Pirates of the Caribbean See more here.
Film Friday
This week's pick: Fight Club.
Actually it was an all out Brad Pitt Polooza this week (also watched Snatch). Seeing two movies in a row where Brad Pitt pretty much fights constantly, all I can say is, he looks good without a shirt! I have never been a huge fan of Edward Norton- but I thought this movie was good. Helen Bonham Carter- is amazingly good at playing quirky women. But I must say I love her more when she looks/reacts more normally. I didn't love LOVE either movie this week. But I was entertained.

Flip and Tumble...
A couple weeks ago I stumbled upon some pretty awesome reusable shopping bags: Flip and Tumble. It really seems that reusable shopping bags have become the en vogue thing to do- every store sells them- and honestly I have been tempted multiple times to pick a couple up. The main drawbacks to them were always the same- 1) Company Logo big on the bag- call me crazy but I hate going to HyVee with a Wal Mart sack, and vice versa. 2) They didn't look super sturdy- I buy heavy things and carry them long distances. 3) How would I ever remember to take them with me to use them the next time? (most of my shopping being done directly after work- not planned out ahead of time)
A major win for this bag- The handle is long enough to carry on the shoulder- this helps when you buy heavy stuff.
It's unique design- it folds up into this little ball (about the size of an apple) When you are done unloading your stuff- fold it up, throw it back into purse- I have yet to forget to take it with me!
Not only are they strong- they look really, super cute. I brought three: Pink, Blue, and Purple. Now I can be stylish, not advertise for a store, save the environment. Sweet deal! I can fit about two regular plastic bags worth of stuff into this bag. It is strong enough to haul a half gallon of milk and several can goods-plus other stuff without much effort. The shoulder strap has some felt on the top to keep it some slipping off. They are definitely more expensive than the bags you would buy at the store- but so far I feel they have definitely proven their worth. I am 100% completely happy about the purchase! I feel good about helping the environment and saving some money too- I have gotten several rebates for using my own bag at the store!

Film Friday
This week's pick: Death Race
This week I was multi-tasking while watching movies, so I am not going to pretend I gave it my full attention- but really I didn't need to. This is a freaking Jason Statham movie! Really that is all you need to know. In one of his movies all I want is- him beating the crap outta someone (check) Driving sweet cars -fast and reckless like (check) Listening to his unusually awesome accent (check). In this movie I also got the bonus of Joan Allen- slumming with Action B-movie stars.
I liked it bordering on loved it- Jason Statham rarely steers me in the wrong direction, I saw transporter 2 in the movie theatre for goodness sakes! I appreciate him for what he is- freaking awesome, and also someone who's movies you don't take too seriously.

oh yeah...
Oh yeah.... Now in my perfectly (seemingly) safe cute town- jerks are graffiti-ing everywhere- These are the doors on the back of the Tulip Toren. Plus maybe I am old- or from the Midwest but I have seen "tags" on like 12 different things so far and I can't figure out what a single one of them says. I guess the Police made 2 arrests this morning. So is everyone safe to get their paint brushes out to clean this up now?
