Red Flannel Run / Best sister in the world

Way back in December I casually mentioned to my sister we should run a 5k together. The first one in the area was the Red Flannel Run- an outdoor run scheduled for the middle of February  In Iowa that could mean any type of weather. She is the best because like an hour later she had already registered and that pushed me to get on it and sign up too. We had a blast. She started with me and than continued her run without me (we had agreed beforehand she didn't need to pace with me) She meet up with me again with about 1/2 mile to go and ran with me until the finish line, which was awesome because of her I didn't stop and walk and I was able to finish with someone.

It's a hit and miss thing....

My lovely sister Laura, has blogged and talked to me all about her netflix troubles. And wowee Do I completely understand. I usually get into a kick where I think one actor or actress is like the best thing since sliced bread and put all of their work in my netflix queue. Like everything. but weeks later, maybe even months, when they finally arrive at my home, I think maybe I shouldn't have picked all of Kate Winslet's work- because frankly a whole heck of a lot of it is depressing heavy stuff. I also find that I often pick really crappy weird independent films. So more often than not the stuff that arrives at home it pretty touch and go. But I have to say thanks to instant streaming I have discovered like at least 10 television shows that I LOVE LOVE now. Maybe it is just like everything else the more you try the more you succeed.

Staycation or Playcation?

Thanks to Laura (and fam) going on a nice little vacation this weekend- I get to do a staycation at their home. Bo and I have the run of the house. Which we will use slightly and then give back in perfect condition (hopefully my bad luck has all run out). I am pretty positive I can handle not destroying their home, but I have never taken care of a Dog before. Not even for like a half a day. Bo is pretty much the easiest animal ever to take of-he likes to be feed and the occasional ball toss. As long as I can keep him from the stuffed animals and pay attention to when he wants to be let out I think I will be golden. Tonight I even through in walk- just because I am awesome. I not sure what his normal route is- so at turns I was tempted to let him decide. Mostly we made a big loop through the neighborhood. The only thing I was paranoid about was encountering a small dog ( afraid Bo would go after it) we met one on the walk, but Bo magically restrained himself, and him pooping in someone's front yard. Yes people today we are talking about poop! I brought my plastic baggy along with me- all prepared to clean up after him if I needed to- but you can "in theory" be ready to do that, but still really really really not want to. I just hoped we would avoid that whole issues altogether. I tried to encourage Bo to use the backyard before we left, he just looked at me like I was an idiot. All along the walk I kept thinking- well if he is going to poop hopefully he will do it near the several churches we walk by and not some owners home (My thinking being- I don't want some poor homeowner watch me pick up poop off their yard, but I guess when you think about it technically I suppose God is the owner of all those churches and he is always watching, so that would have been way worse.) Luckily - no poop! (enough poop talk?- lets move on to pee) Pee on the other hand- Bo did plenty of that, after like the 3rd time I was positive he couldn't have any let , but no that didn't stop him from marking every official looking pole- everywhere. I laughed out loud when he peed on the fire hydrant- I thought only Hollywood dogs did that in movies and cartoons. I guess our Bo is a movie star! So far so good, hopefully I can keep a notoriously emotional Bo out of the depths of depression this weekend!

I hear this and think of you....

Years ago, when my sister was in high school, she bought this CD. One day she came home, got my brother and I, and popped this cd into the stereo in the living room. Before I knew it was excitedly waiting to see what she could possibly want all of us to listen to- especially important because I distinctly remember her checking to make sure Mom wasn't home. She set the cd to track 8, and cranked the stereo. This song had curse words all over it, in fact it was even in the title. It seemed so cool that my older sister and brother were sharing something like this, something that was so not allowed, with me (I was only in grade school at the time). I remember the three of us rocking out to that song and a couple of others. Now every time I hear that song, or band I think of Laura. I heard Live on the radio today, and couldn't stop rocking out!

Promised Pictures...

Okay so my camera was closer than expected- Here is Dallas Charles!

Keeping Busy...

December has been a pretty busy month for me. So many great things have happened. I have a new nephew - Dallas Charles Kibbe! He is pretty perfect... just like you would expect. One of these days I am sure he will get around to opening his eyes for me. I was lucky enough to be able to see him when he was still only a couple of hours old. Nothing like brand new newborns! I also got to see him at home with his family last Friday and Laura and Robert are looking pretty amazing for parents of a newborn and a toddler! I only stopped by for a couple of minutes but I was happy to see everyone including my favorite niece Emily doing so well! I will post some pictures soon- I was waiting for his family to unveil him first.

Tulip Time- Sibling Time!

Emily being independent- I don't know how many little old ladies wanted to take her picture by the tulips but Emily just wouldn't pose.
Closest thing I could get to having Emily pose by tulips...
Emily and her favorite Uncle Greg!
Laura posing it up at the top of the windmill!

All of my siblings made it down or up to visit for Tulip Time. Rob and Emily especially liked the food. Laura enjoyed all the tulips and Greg even braved his fear of heights to go to the top of the windmill with everyone.

Lunch with Emily and Laura

When last in Ames I had the pleasure of having lunch with Emily and Laura! Emily was too cute when she flirted with all the other customers...
