Getting back in the groove

I took a couple of days off from work last week. I had some carryover vacation that needed to be used! It was relaxing and i did get a few things done but mostly I was lazy. I only went to the gym on Wednesday. But I did walk home from and to the tire place on Friday when I was dropping off and picking up my car.
When I returned to work Monday my computer wouldn't turn on - IT gave me that sad news that it died later in the morning. That really through me off at work since I couldn't access any of my files. I also took a CPR/First Aid class at work yesterday. Now I know how to give CPR to anyone age 1 to 101 and how to use an AED- although those are pretty fool proof. I also learned some basic first aid. When I went in Monday I didn't realize the class was going to be 4 hours and it made for a long day.
Today at work I finally got my files recovered and got set up on another computer- got all I was planning to get done on Monday done today. After work I rushed to the gym and again started on my 5k training and then some weight lifting.
Well I am getting sleepy... so off to bed.

5K

Yesterday at work I went to a meeting about the Pella Challenge- it is essentially you signing up to say i have this goal- and getting support from other team members to achieve it. Originally I had just planned to see if I could find some others that could go to the gym at the same time I did but the guy running the meeting was way passionate about it and said there was a plan to go from couch potato to 5k. So I think that is what my goal is going to be- working up to a 5k! Today at the gym I did the training plan for week one- and although it kicked my butt a bit I made it all the way through!

Bad news... good news...

Bad news first- Bad year for the housing market, and the economy. The housing market has been on a downward trend since about late 2005/early 2006 and is projected to bottom out sometime in late 2008 or even early 2009- why is a young women like myself writing about boring house statistics you say? I work for a large window manufacture and when people aren't building, buying or remolding there is 1) less work for me to do and 2) not good for my company. Yesterday the company announced it would be restructuring our (salaried) bonus structure. Which means if we can't pull through this year with some good results my bonus will be cut in half. yuck. I am hoping they don't have to completely get drastic like 17 years ago when they cut all salaried people's salaries by 10%- and it wasn't a short-term situation they never got them back, even when the market went back up- double yikes!
Good news- today at the gym I diversified and did some weight training- or a lot of it. I tried most of the machines that until today have, well baffled and terrified me. But building muscle is essential for burning fat so here I am building muscle! The weather finally looks to be warming up so I am hoping to be able to start walking to work soon. My gym requires "gym only" shoes so today at the grand opening of the new shoe place I picked up a new pair of "gym only" shoes and am going to retire my old pair to outdoor walking and running and biking- this spring looks to be a damp one so it will be nice to be able to get a pair muddy and not having to worry about cleaning them before going to the gym.

Emily

This image was just too Cute! Here is a pic of little Emily last time I saw her. She was very concentrated on her snack!

Finallly...

Today has been one of those days were I really really didn't want to go to work. Surprisingly enough these days are pretty rare for me. Monday and Tuesday I was on a team at work which meant I was working days and not my 11 p.m. -9 a.m. routine. Naturally I kept my normal schedule Sunday and was wired from about midnight to 4 am on Monday unable to sleep. Luckily for me vending machine coffee is cheap at work and for a mere $.50 I was pleasantly alert at my team. Tuesday is what threw me off- I got off the team and out of my office at about 1 p.m. but couldn't sleep when i got home and man did I try. So today when I tried to get back on my regular work schedule I was wiped. I was awake at the right time to make it to work by startup but I was exhausted. I gave myself a break and reasoned that I didn't need to return to work in less than 12 hours of leaving. Thanks to some pre-planning I had let my boss know i might not go in until 2 a.m. and I caught a much needed 2 hour nap. At work today I pretty much went through the motions and bought my time until I could leave- I don't do that so often but with the slow season in the window business sometimes it is just to boring to do anything!
After work I busted home and changed into my workout gear and hit the gym. I joined a local gym last Monday and have to say I am doing a good job at going and working out. Last week I went Mon-Thurs. This week I have been Sun, Mon and Wed. I have been trying to eat better and actually catch all three meals in one day. I cut out pop completely and if you know my work schedule it was a hard choice. But I am surviving with lots of water and the occasional coffee. So far so good- getting a good workout in helps me sleep better and so I guess I am getting more rested all around. Well I have tons of pictures to post from 3 weekends ago I promised people so I have to split!
